Constitutional Recognition

  • Role: Assisting Expert Panel Member Timmy Djawa Burarrwanga (Gumatj Clan)
  • Aim: In 2011 the Expert Panel was tasked with reporting to Government on the options for constitutional change and approaches to a referendum that would be most likely to obtain widespread support across the Australian community. They engaged with fellow Australians in conversations that took place in communities, towns and cities across the country and which, gave the Panel invaluable insights into how people from many backgrounds and walks of life want to see their sense of nationhood and citizenship reflected in the Constitution.  This report outlines recommendations that includes substantive change to the Constitution, that recognises the true status of First Australians and that removes racial discrimination from the document.

The Big Switch Off

Australia 2006-2007

Campaign Type: Political / Environmental Awareness

  • Role: Campaign Manager
  • The Big Switch Off was an independent environmental campaign launched in Melbourne in November 2006. It was a “40-hour Famine style” challenge aimed at residents and businesses to switch off the electricity and gas connections to their houses, refrain from using petrol and batteries for 24 hours.
  • Goal: The goal of the campaign is to increase awareness of the need for energy efficiency.
  • Intended to be a fun and social day, the Big Switch Off was planned for 6 and 7 October 2007, starting at 8 pm on the Saturday night and ending at 8 pm on the Sunday night.
  • Focus: Secured event sponsorship and strategic partnerships, developed and produced a national PSA campaign, produced press releases, contributed to online content, liaised with news media (radio, television and print), reported to campaign directors, negotiated with corporate supporters (incl. McDonalds Australia)

Landmines

Cambodia 2000

  • Role: Campaign Supporter / Documentary Producer
  • Aki Ra’s Landmine Museum was operating just outside of Siem Reap . Craig worked in Siem Reap in 2000-2001 and became friends with Aki Ra.
  • Goal: Assist Aki Ra record a short documentary about his Landmine Museum.
  • Focus: Cover the museum and the work that Aki Ra does in the field clearing mines.
